A darkened eye – Missing the mark

As I write this, I am looking at the keyboard and screen through one eye. I have a case of Bell’s Palsy which is keeping my left eye shut and the left side of my face drooping. The good news is that I went to the doctor and everything else looked good in a total blood workup, MRI, and CT scan. With medication it should go away in two to six weeks. Without medication it will take two to six weeks. I don’t have any depth perception because of it, and that is a problem.

Jesus speaks of the eye, “Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness.” (Luke 11:34).

Throughout the Bible the major words translated “sin” have the basic meaning of “missing the mark”. Sin is missing the mark of righteousness and truth.

When an individual’s eye is not working properly it will certainly make him/her have difficulty in hitting the mark. I cannot drive right now because I cannot make good judgments about the path I would travel.

If we are not discerning, with eyes open to the truth of God, then we are certainly missing the mark. Hopefully, time will cure my eye problem. But time alone cannot cure spiritual eye problems.

Jesus told the lukewarm church in Laodicea, “I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see” (Revelation 3:18).

There is a cure for spiritually blurred vision. It is an eye salve that can only be found in Jesus if you will meet him at the cross.
