The Maggie J. Bryant (MJB) Scholarship Fund announced Ajayden K. Rogers was its 2023 MJB Scholarship Award recipient on Aug. 1.

Rogers, a resident of Troy, is a 2023 Goshen High School graduate who excelled as a student-athlete and teacher’s aide during her high school career.

According to MJB Fund Chairperson Marenda Bryant Caldwell, Rogers is well-deserving of the award.

“She has a passion for helping others and giving back to her community as demonstrated by her ability to balance academics and community service,” Caldwell said.

The scholarship includes $1,500 to assist with Rogers’ college expenses at Troy University, where she plans to pursue a nursing degree.

The MJB Scholarship was established in honor of Maggie J. Bryant, Caldwell’s mother, as an effort to help deserving students achieve their educational goals and embrace the values of lifelong learning and community leadership.

“Award recipients serve as role models by demonstrating leadership in community service, academic excellence, and lifelong learning,” Caldwell said. 

The scholarship is open to students in Crenshaw, Covington, and Pike counties and recipients can receive up to $1,500 to assist with college expenses. Candidates are nominated or self-nominated annually by June 30 and selected by July 31.

“Our goal is to help create a community of future leaders who value lifelong learning and servant leadership, just as our mother did,” Caldwell said.

Previous winners include Sheonte’ Barginere, a 2022 graduate and the valedictorian of Brantley High School, and Anna McKinney, of Georgiana, who is a 2022 Andalusia High School graduate. Bargineer is a Luverne resident and attends Northwest Florida State Community College where she is majoring in sports and fitness management with plans to pursue a nursing degree.

McKinney is enrolled at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College where she is pursuing a major in psychology with plans to become a clinical psychologist.
