Reesa Manies Daniels, 46, a resident of Goshen, passed away after a courageous battle with breast cancer on Monday, Oct. 9 at Baptist Medical Center East in Montgomery. Funeral services for Reesa will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. James McVey and Pastor Jeffrey Penn officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Reesa was defined by love: love for her family, love for mankind, and, especially, her love of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Glenwood Assembly of God and gloried in worshiping with them every chance she got. There was nothing more important to her than her faith and making sure her children and grandchildren followed that straight and narrow path. Her favorite verse that she quoted so often her children have it memorized was “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” – Jeremiah 29:11. She truly believed in walking the path of righteousness and for everyone to see the love of Christ in her, which meant loved each and every person she met the way Christ loved the church. That’s not nearly as easy or simple as it sounds, but Reesa modeled the kind of love and grace everyone who professes the name of the Lord should have.
Reesa had a leg up on many others when it came to loving her fellow man because it came so naturally to her. She had a gregarious personality, which meant she never really met a stranger, and she was blessed with a smile that could simply light up a room. Oh, and her laugh was infectious! It never failed to bring a smile to your face as the laughter came bubbling up. She was a born extrovert with a phenomenal sense of humor. She loved to tease others and find ways to make them laugh along with her, and no one could get her going like her sister and best friend, Rochelle! They were two peas in a pod, partners in crime, and an absolute hoot when they were together. Lord knows what Reesa would have done without her entire support system during these last few years as she was in the fight of her life, from her husband and children to Rochelle and her beloved father-in-law, Pops! She was a true fighter though and her courage during this battle was such an impressive feat and an inspiration to all those who knew and loved her.
Reesa spent most of her working career in retail, whether it was working for Sew America as the 331 Outlet or managing Factory Connection these last few years. She was gifted at embroidery and loved spending her time expressing her artistic side through that, and she was a phenomenal cook. In fact, she was such a wiz in the kitchen that her family had trouble narrowing down her best dish because they were all so dang good! I think her chicken casserole and anything she could drop into a fryer probably came out ahead in that department. It’s no surprise that Zaxby’s was her preferred guilty pleasure, and any shopping trip with her girls usually involved a stop there. In her free time, besides shopping, she loved getting her nails done and some good ol’ Alabama football! And there was nothing better than curling up on the couch or in the bed with her family, especially Rochelle, and watching the Lifetime Movie Network or all of her favorite true crime shows! Obviously, Reesa had a lot of varied interests and activities, but there was absolutely nothing she loved more than being a wife, mother, and “Grammi.” Her family was her life and her greatest treasure on this earth. She’d rather be with them than anyone else, and they all thrived under her love. There is nothing worse than losing someone you love and someone as special as Reesa so unnaturally young, but she is leaving behind a treasure trove of cherished memories that will allow her to live on in their hearts for many more years to come. Her loved ones also know that she is now healthy, whole, and pain-free in the arms of the Lord.
Reesa was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Hoyt Manies Sr; mother-in-law, Grace Daniels; and siblings, Rhonda Summerlin and Ronald Hoyt “Buddy” Manies Jr. She is survived by her adoring husband of almost 9 years, Richard Daniels; children, Josie (Jon) Williamson, Brianna Jones, Evan Jones, Toby Jones, Levi Daniels, Seth Daniels, and Kason Manies; grandchildren, Easton & Rhett Williamson with another one on the way; mother, Carol Morse Manies; father-in-law, Malcolm “Pops” Daniels; sisters, Rochelle Defee, Rachel Manies, and Regina Manies; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Jason Defee, Brandon Defee, Jacob Defee, Leman Summerlin, Jace Tidwell, and Kyle Jordan.
