Sheriff Terry Mears arrested Shane Nelson for arson Thursday evening after a mobile home was set on fire located on Loman Loop Road in Dozier.

Mears said the suspect was upset with his parents after having an altercation with them about his vehicle. The suspect was later found walking down a dirt road in Dozier carrying two machetes and a pipe.

“He had everything on him except the gas can,” Mears said.

The mobile home was not occupied. It was owned by Nelson’s parents and was being used for storage. Nelson reportedly threatened to burn down additional structures as well.

Drug use is suspected at this time.

“I would like to thank the Dozier Fire Department for their quick response and Investigator Marcus Laster for backing me up. Everyone did a great job,” said Mears.
