The Crenshaw County Sheriff’s office has reported a fatal shooting occurred in Rutledge Wednesday.
Deputies responded to the 1000 block of South Moody Crossroads in Rutledge Wednesday afternoon after receiving a call regarding a shooting victim.
According to a media release by Sheriff Terry Mears, the victim as well as a potential suspect have both been identified.
“Deputies responded to the scene, where they discovered a white female inside the residence suffering from gunshot wounds,” Mears said. “Tragically, Luverne Rescue arrived but pronounced the victim, identified as Elizabeth Holladay, a 59-year-old resident of Rutledge, deceased.”
Mears said deputies worked diligently throughout the afternoon and night on Oct. 25 and ultimately the victim’s husband, Joe David Holladay, was arrested and charged with murder.
“Criminal Investigators from the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office were immediately dispatched to process the scene and conduct interviews, working tirelessly throughout the night and continuing their efforts today,” Mears said. “Based on the preliminary investigation, Mrs. Holladay’s Husband, Joe David Holladay, a 61-year-old resident of Rutledge, Alabama, was arrested and charged with Murder.”
Mears said the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the Crenshaw County Coroner’s Office to ensure a thorough investigation into this tragic incident, and due to the nature of the ongoing investigation, no further information has been released at this time.
