On Saturday, Jan. 27, Caroleene Dobson, a Montgomery attorney and proclaimed lifelong advocate for conservative values, held a meet and greet in the banquet room of the Chicken Shack in Luverne. The event served as an opportunity for Dobson to introduce herself to Congressional District 2 residents and discuss their concerns as she announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District.

The candidate explained why running for the office became a top priority.

“When it came time to start a family I wanted to be back in Alabama and raise my kids here,” Dobson said. “When the district lines were finalized… I just really felt led to try to make a difference for my daughters.”

Born and raised in Beatrice, Dobson grew up on her family’s fifth-generation cattle farm, where she said she learned the value of hard work and gained a firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by the local community. 

After excelling academically as a National Merit finalist and a U.S. Presidential Scholar, she attended Harvard College, where she was an active member of the Harvard Republican Club. Dobson later earned her law degree with magna cum laude honors from Baylor Law School and served as the article’s editor for the Baylor Law Review.

Currently practicing real estate law at the Maynard Nexsen law firm, Dobson has built a career representing a diverse clientele, including homebuilders, retailers, small business owners, and private landowners. 

In her campaign literature, Dobson emphasizes her passion for families, farms, and faith, and her determination to preserve the fundamental values that define the nation. She aims to challenge the far-left agenda in Washington, D.C., advocating for property rights and defending freedom of speech and action. Dobson’s campaign is rooted in her desire to secure a better future for her children and to uphold the principles that make America the land of the free.

Commenting on her decision to enter the race, Dobson’s mother, Lynne Hardee, spoke proudly of her daughter’s work ethic and commitment to public service. 

“When she got into this race, she told me, ‘Mama, nobody will outwork me,’ and I said ‘Caroleene, no one ever has,'” Hardee said. “She’s just one of those people that looks for the next right thing to do and does it.”

Tom Sanders, a longtime supporter of Dobson, praised her as a common-sense candidate with strong values and a deep understanding of the district’s needs. 

“They’re common sense people. They know where they came from. They’ve got good values,” Sanders said. “When I saw that Caroleene was running for Congress, I was super excited. She’s never been in politics before, she’s highly educated and a successful lawyer. She doesn’t really need this job, but in her heart, she wants to see something there for her children when they grow up.”

Dobson herself expressed her deep connection to the district and her motivation for running. 

“I grew up on a farm in North Monroe County, went to Monroe Academy,” Dobson said. “I want my daughters to be safe and healthy and have a future here in District 2.”
