Agnes Viers Broderway, 84, a resident of Rutledge, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, Feb. 5. Funeral services for Agnes will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Coach Doug Brown offering the eulogy. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Faith Hill Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Agnes will always be lovingly remembered in her community for the over 30 years she happily drove a school bus for Luverne School. Driving a bus was truly a passion for Agnes as truly loved each and every child who ever rode on her bus. They were all her “kids,” regardless of how many years it had been since they had finished school. She was always delighted whenever she ran into one of them over the years, and there was never any doubt that she could remember each and every one of them. Her feisty personality was perfectly suited for her chosen career field as she never had any trouble keeping her kids in line over the years. If you rode Agnes’s bus, you knew you better not cut up or cause trouble… even if you were her grandson!

You never had to wonder what Agnes thought about something because she was not the type to keep her opinions to herself. Even so, she had an open and loving heart which never judged others, just accepted them as they were. Everyone should be so lucky to have a person like that in their life, as you could be assured she was always going to be a safe shelter in the storms of your life. Not only that, Agnes was also an extremely generous soul who never hesitated to give if she had it. In her free time, she enjoyed whipping up scrumptious Southern home-cooking and delicious cakes for her family and friends. She also loved keeping her mind active with crossword puzzles and reading, as well as admiring the beauty of the hummingbirds she fed on her porch. Above all, Agnes was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who was the rock her family was built upon. Though she will be missed more than words could possibly express, they will find comfort in the lifetime of precious memories they made together.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Broderway; grandson, Jacob Broderway; and parents, Alvin Viers and Lillian Stovall Dawson. She is survived by her children, Mavis B. Thomas and Thomas E. Broderway; grandchildren, Amanda K. Bagents and Ryan H. Bagents (Voneisha Bedgood); great-grandchildren, Jordyn Bagents, Jonathan Smith (Demetria Riley), and Isabell Bagents; great-great-grandson, Jonathan D. Smith Jr; sister, Loyce (Fred) Hibbs; dear friends, Billy and Sue Wallace and Jeff and Stacey Mobley; canine companion, JoJo; rescue cat, Pedro; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
