Volunteer firefighters to host 37th annual rodeo

It’s rodeo week! Festivities will kick off Thursday with a free concert starting at 7 p.m. at Turner Park. Benjie Sanders and Kyle Richburg will be performing and Flint’s Smokehouse will be serving up pulled pork sandwiches, various sides and pineapple sausage.

Thrilling live competition returns to Luverne for the 37th Annual Crenshaw County Association of Volunteer Fire Departments (CCAVFD) Rodeo. This year’s rodeo will be held Aug. 2 – 3 at the Tom Harbin Ag Center on Airport Road in Luverne. 

Gates will open each day at 5:30 p.m., with the rodeo action kicking off at 7:30 p.m. nightly. Attendees can look forward to a variety of electrifying events, including Saddle Bronc, Breakaway, Bareback, Bull Riding, Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Barrel Racing and more. 

On Saturday night, Mutton Bustin’ will start at 5:30 p.m., with registration beginning at 5 p.m. Proceeds from the rodeo will support local volunteer fire departments, providing essential funding for their operations. 

Tickets are priced at $15 for ages 13 and older, $10.00 for ages 6-12, and free for children under six. Advance tickets are available for $12 and $7 at First Citizens Bank. 

The family-friendly event, sanctioned by the National Cowboy Pro Rodeo Association (NCPRA) and produced by 5T Rodeo Company from Poplarville, Mississippi, promises to deliver unforgettable moments and support a worthy cause.
