At a special called meeting Friday, the Crenshaw County Board of Education (CCBOE) approved Interim Superintendent Gregory Faught’s recommendation to appoint Kris Odom as the new principal of Brantley School. 

Odom, serving currently as Education Specialist for Crenshaw County Schools, will fill the position left vacant by Marcus Taylor, who resigned Nov. 4. 

Faught emphasized Odom’s qualifications and the importance of his leadership during this transitional period.

“After working with Kris over the last two and a half months, his leadership abilities really became apparent,” Faught said. “He is very reliable, has good relationships with our parents and has a clear vision of what he’d like to accomplish at Brantley. His familiarity with the school during somewhat of an unsettling time will be very beneficial.”

According to Faught, Odom’s appointment ensures a smooth transition and a continued productive learning environment at Brantley School.

Odom, a seasoned administrator with experience as both an assistant principal and principal, expressed his enthusiasm for returning to Brantley School, where his career in the district began over two decades ago.

“I am beyond thrilled to return to Brantley School as principal,” Odom said. “I am deeply grateful to Superintendent Faught and the Crenshaw County Board of Education for entrusting me with the opportunity to lead this incredible team of educators and students. 

“This transition truly feels like home. Brantley School is not just a school, it’s a community, a family and a source of pride. I look forward to finishing my career where my tenure in Crenshaw County began some 21 years ago and working together to continue the tradition of excellence that makes Brantley so special. What an honor and a gift this truly is.”

Odom will assume his duties as Brantley School principal Nov.18.

In addition to Odom’s hiring, the board also accepted the resignation of Special Education Paraprofessional Sarah Mosley from Luverne School during the meeting.
