Brantley native helps Northeast Mississippi Community College win the first state title in the school’s history.

The Tigers won the 2021 Mississippi Association of Community Colleges (MACCC) championship Tuesday, April 19, at Briarwood Golf Club. The Tigers shot five-over par during the final round.

Not only is this the first golf state title in the school’s history, it is also the first major championship for the college since winning the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 crown at the Division III level in 2008.

Finishing one shot behind medalist Matt Wilkinson from Mississippi Gulf Coast, the game gave Kilcrease his second consecutive runner-up and third total runner-up result.

“We all worked hard last year and never got the chance,” Kilcrease said. “It’s all just come together here in the end. We’re all very close friends and pretty good golfers. It’s just been a lot of fun this year.”

Kilcrease began playing golf at the age of 12. Brantley High School started a golf team his Jr. (wccannabis) year, and at the age of 17, Kilcrease began playing competitively. He was signed by Northeast Mississippi State in Fall of 2019 when the school brought the golf program back from a temporary shutdown.

Currently ranked number 2 in the state of Mississippi, Kilcrease is qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament scheduled for May 17-21 in Plymouth Indiana. Kilcrease is also First Team All-State and boasts a 73.6 collegiate average.

Kilcrease has accepted an offer from Troy State University where he will be a preferred walk-on. He is studying Physical Education.
