In a heartwarming display of community spirit, The Kingsmen Program hosted its fifth annual “Thanksgiving On Us” event on November 22, bringing together neighbors, volunteers, and partners to celebrate the spirit of gratitude. 

The event, held at Xtreme Industrial Metal in Luverne, boasted a delightful array of dishes, featuring rotisserie chicken, ham, green beans, and sweet potato souffle and was made possible through a collaboration with Hi Tech Logistics.

Beverly Sexton of Highland Home was in town that day and noticed Alexis Hill handing out the lunches. 

“It really touched my heart to see Mr. Hill giving out free Thanksgiving meals,” Sexton said. “He gave out 120 meals that day and I thought to myself when I saw what he was doing, man this gentleman deserves a pat on the back. With there being so much negativity in the world today it is so good to know that we have some really great things like this happening right here in Crenshaw County.”

The brainchild of Alexis Hill, a 27-year Army veteran from Luverne that served seven combat tours, The Kingsmen Program has become a beacon of hope and support for the local community. Hill, a Luverne High School graduate, founded the program upon his return from military service, recognizing a need for fostering youth development and nurturing future generations within the community. 

Hill said he’s very thankful for the community’s support and the turnout.  

“We had a great response,” Hill said. “There was no food wasted and I enjoyed the conversations with the community.  I would like to thank Jennifer Banta for helping with this event and Sticky Frog for providing the logos and signs.”

The Kingsmen Program, at its core, is a community-driven initiative with a mission to bring people together for decision-making and objective achievement that benefits all. The primary focus is on youth, with an aim to mentor and encourage the upcoming generation in a safe, structured, and positive environment.

Hill emphasized the diverse membership of The Kingsmen Program, consisting of individuals young and old, united by open-mindedness and a shared commitment to making a positive impact. Some members have witnessed the ebb and flow of life, carrying with them a wealth of experience and a genuine eagerness to dedicate themselves to the betterment of the community.

The program’s mission statement underscores its dedication to building a stronger, more thriving community where everyone, especially the youth, can develop without fear of judgment. The Kingsmen Program stands as a testament to the power of collective action and the positive change that can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared vision.

As The Kingsmen Program continues its mission, events like “Thanksgiving On Us” serve as reminders of the potential for transformation and unity within our communities. With a foundation built on mentorship, encouragement, and inclusivity, the program is poised to leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.
